WHERE MY JOURNEY BEGAN

not religion.
relationship.

Every story has a turning point. For me, it came the morning I fell to my knees and met God not as a doctrine or dogma—but as Papa. That moment changed everything.

I Call Him Papa was born from that encounter. It’s a journey through doubt, heartbreak, and rediscovery, told through cinematic storytelling and real-life honesty. This isn’t a book about rules or rituals—it’s about the kind of relationship we were created for.

Because at the heart of it all, God never wanted ritual.

He wants relationship.

The Heart Behind the Pages

what if God Never wanted our rituals in the first placeonly our hearts?

For years, I believed in God but never knew how to engage Him—until disillusionment grew so deep, I began to doubt God’s very presence, drifting for more than two decades in unbelief. Religion gave me rituals and rules, but not a Father who longed for a raw, dynamic, interactive relationship with His children—beyond control, beyond performance.

Then came the breaking points—divorce, doubt, despair—and moments that pushed me to the edge. A tattoo inked across my back became a daily reminder to keep breathing for my daughter’s sake. Her voice—“Papa, please don’t go”—echoed long after the car pulled away from the curb. And when a movie scene replayed my own goodbye on a theater screen, it didn’t comfort me—it crushed me.

I CALL HIM PAPA: From Religion to Relationship is born out of that kind of honesty. Blending memoir, cinematic retellings of Scripture, and insights from psychology, I reveal a God who doesn’t demand performance but offers presence. Readers will listen as Moses speaks with God on Mount Sinai, walk with Ruth as she clings to Naomi, huddle with the disciples as Jesus teaches them to pray for the first time, and sit with the man who had given up all hope at the pool of Bethesda.

This isn’t distant theology—it’s invitation. For seekers burned by religion, believers weary from the journey, or anyone longing to be known, I CALL HIM PAPA insists there’s a Papa waiting in the valley—One who’s always wanted a relationship, not our rituals.

Why This book... why now?

We’re living in a moment of spiritual shift. Across the U.S., nearly one in three adults now identify with no religion—a number that has climbed steadily to about 28–29% between 2023 and 2025. Studies on what researchers call “the Great Dechurching” reveal that nearly 40 million Americans who once attended church have walked away in the past 25 years—the largest and fastest religious shift in modern history. And the momentum continues, with more than 2.7 million leaving each year.

But beneath those statistics lies a deeper truthpeople aren’t walking away from faith—they’re walking away from what feels hollow. Many are searching for a God who’s real, relational, and present—not distant, institutional, or scripted.

That’s why I Call Him Papa was written.

The book stands alongside today’s most compelling works on doubt, prayer, and relational spirituality—but it speaks with a distinct voice. Its cinematic storytelling, memoir honesty, and biblical retellings draw readers into the story of Scripture as if they’re standing in it themselves. And at its core is a simple truth that sets it apartGod never wanted ritual. He wants relationship.
